About Rijnstroom IV
Moored at a private pontoon on the beautifully scenic Bembridge Harbour, Rijnstroom IV, is a 90ft long by 18ft wide original Dutch barge built in Rotterdam, Holland in 1922. Constructed from Iron and Steel she weighs 140 tons. Originally she was used for transporting grain and other heavy goods around the canals and waterways of Holland. Later, after being commandeered by the German army, she was used for transporting munitions along the Rhine during World War 2. She was imported into the UK in December 1982 and moored at Sunderland Wharf in the Northeast of England. She was transferred to the River Hamble on the South coast of England in 1991 and then onto the Isle of Wight in 2004, where she was moored at the Odessa Marina, Newport. Finally after being purchased by her present owners in September 2006, she was transferred to Island Harbour on the river Medina and then onto her current home at Bembridge Harbour, where she has undergone extensive alterations and renovations to become a very popular holiday destination.
